I’m admittedly not very good at knitting – I learned when I was about 19-20 but can still only knit very basic scarves and baby blankets. I’d love to get better at it, but as I’ve aged I’ve started having some trouble with almost arthritis-like stiffness in my hands – hand sewing I can manage, but those knitting needles do me in after a very short amount of time. I think it must be the intensely repetitive motions. All that said, I still love looking at knitting patterns and would love to be able to learn how to knit better and make cute little vintage sweaters and dresses.
Today I found this copy of The Art of Knitting, which was published by Butterick in 1892, on one of my favourite websites of all time, archive.org, and it’s so absolutely wonderful that I just had to share it with all of you! You can read it online, or download a copy for yourself, here. 🙂
